Description

Having been in the trade for many years, Jez is an absolute master at restoring old wooden floors and installing new ones with a quality of workmanship that is second-to-none.

New concrete must be allowed to cure thoroughly which can take up to 3 months. Other surfaces have to be prepared and primed with the suitable primer for that substrate. Existing painted surfaces - Surfaces should be cleaned, degreased and sanded to ensure an adequate "key" is produced. Remove all loose and flaking material and treat bare areas as new substrate and prepare accordingly. Floorsaver Epoxy Floor Paint is a two part epoxy resin supplied as a tin of resin and a tin of curing agent. Once the contents of the two tins have been mixed together, a reaction takes place which causes the product to cure. This means that one 5L tin can’t be used for 2 coats. It will cover 30m2 with one coat, but if you have for example, 15m², you can’t use half the 5L tin for the first coat, then wait for the first coat to dry before using the other half for the second coat – it will have gone off in the tin. This is why we also make a 2.5L size. This covers 15m² with one coat, so select two of these if you want to apply 2 coats to an area of up to 15m². Two coats of Resincoat HB Epoxy Garage Floor Paint can provide the equivalent of ten coats of conventional coatings containing solvent or water based epoxy products. Our floor paint is the perfect choice for your garage or car service centre as it is oil tolerant as well as being resistant to any other automotive fluid that would ruin standard paints.New concrete should be at least 2 months old and always washed with floorsaver Floor Etcher to reduce alkalinity and to remove any weak, loose cement deposits. The floor was prepped and them primed with the epoxy sealer coat, before being finished with the top coat in light grey. If you think you may have gotten the ratios wrong then there are a few ways to figure it out by the issues you’re having with the finish.

If the induction time was not followed then there are a good few issues that can arise. They are mostly aesthetic, but nonetheless problematic. For greasy floors with heavy oil residue clean thoroughly using a suitable degreaser scraping off any dust or dirt and then prime with Resincoat Oil Tolerant Primer Usually the pot life is only a couple of hours, so make sure you are ready to do the work before you mix the components together. Old paint finishes should be removed if flaking at all and the surface should be sanded to create a texture (also known as a mechanical key) prior to applying Resincoat HB Epoxy Garage Floor Paint. When preparing for a floor coat, doing so mechanically (shot-blasting or grinding) is always advisable for best results, but if that is not possible then sanding the area or our Etch and Clean is a good alternative. After the surface has been completely abraded, thoroughly sweep and vacuum the area of any remaining dust or contaminants. For more information on preparation, please see technical data sheet.Colours are sold in the nearest tin size but actual paint volume per tin may vary up to 10% depending on colour When mixing with a mechanical mixer you need to be sure that it is set at a low speed. It may be tempting to crank up the speed to try and mix it faster, but the heat that will be generated from mixing faster would cause issues further down the line. The heat affects the reaction between the base and activator, and has a detrimental impact on the curing. If you enjoy our blog and think you can help give a small business a boost, please feel free to share it to your friends or any classic car forums that you might be part of. Once the base and the activator have been mixed then it initiates the chemical reaction that causes it to cure. So once the two components have been mixed you have a limited amount of time to apply it before it has hardened too much. Often it is recommended to keep stirring at different intervals throughout to give you some extra time to apply the whole mix. You can combine 5L (30m²) and 2.5L (15m²) for areas which are not multiples of 30m² in size and more than one coat is required. For example, to cover 45m² with 2 coats use 1 x 5L and 1 x 2.5L for the first coat and same again for the second. If you have any questions please let us know.

Separating the mix can be done by either weight or by volume, but make sure you’re using the one consistent with the datasheet. However, any water rising from the surface below could cuase the paint to be pushed from the surface. Although it is a hard wearing epoxy product and it is likely, with a textured surface to achieve a strong bond, the rising water could still be a problem as this causes pressure below the coating. Before application it is important to make sure that all areas are clean, sound, dry & free from surface contamination. All oils and grease should be removed with a suitable degreasing solution. Any laitance on concrete should be removed by blasting, acid etching or other suitable mechanical methods. Hard smooth power-floated concrete floors should be acid etched or mechanically abraded. Care should be taken on previously painted floors to make sure that the original coatings are sound, as the epoxy will 'tighten-up' during curing, exposing areas of the original floor coating which have poor adhesion - mechanically abrading all areas is recommended to reduce this risk.

The cured final coat is ok for foot traffic. Cars and heavy objects, however, should be left off the new coating for the first 48 hours and chemicals including water should not be introduced for the first 7 days (Full chemical cure). Drying Time- Touch dry in 30 minutes, hard dry after 12 hours. Recoatable after 16 hours (minimum) and prior to 10 days (maximum). Mixed pot life: approximately 12-16 hours.

If the floor is still damp as a result of cleaning, it's not a problem since this is a water based epoxy. However, don't put it onto floors where there is rising damp. Applying to hard, very smooth power floated concrete where paint cannot sink into the surface. If in doubt, tip a cup of water over the surface and see if it soaks in or not. This can be from either not getting the work done fast enough or from not stirring the product intermittently when applying.
