It is a very controversial ingredient with pros and cons and plenty of mythsaround it. Furthermore, petrolatum has been shown to penetrate deeply into damaged skin and enhance recovery of the skin’s barrier function. Petrolatum protects the skin after an injury by replicating the occlusive properties of the stratum corneum. Extensive clinical data has shown petrolatum to be a gentle ingredient.Frankincense essential oil– A popular oil for skin care due to its ability torejuvenate dry or mature skin. (Find certified organic frankincense oil online.) Mineral oil is a clear, odorless oil derived from a mineral source, typically a distillate of petroleum, that functions as an emollient. After application, mineral oil forms a protective film on the surface of skin that helps to prevent evaporation of the skin’s natural moisture. It is used to soften and smooth the skin in the Albolene Moisturizing Cleanser.

Cocoa butter– A moisturizing oil that comes from the cocoa bean. Cocoa butter is very hard at room temperature so it helps with the consistency of the cleansing balm. (I get disks of organic cocoa butter in bulk but you can find them online.) Another super common myth surrounding mineral oil is that it is comedogenic. A 2005 study titled"Is mineral oil comedogenic?" examined this very question and guess what happened? The study concluded that" based on the animal and human data reported, along with the AAD recommendation, it would appear reasonable to conclude that mineral oil is noncomedogenic in humans."

When compared to heavy-duty plant oil, extra virgin coconut oil, the two of them were equally efficient and safe as moisturizers in treating xerosis, a skin condition connected to very dry skin.
