a b c d "Lucy Spraggan Open Mic UK Guest Act Provides Unsigned Music Advice". Open Mic UK. Archived from the original on 18 July 2013 . Retrieved 4 September 2012. She also viewed the enforced isolation of the pandemic as generally a positive thing. It afforded her much-needed respite from being an extremely busy touring musician (“it can consume your whole world”) and it enabled her to become much more self-aware (“I hadn’t spent any time doing that”). In turn, her creative development and productivity levels increased. November 2014 Spraggan showcased new music she'd been working on since The X Factor. On 17 January via Facebook she announced the title of her second studio album titled We Are, which was released on 4 May 2015, and the first single "Unsinkable" released on 12 March 2015. Following the album's release Spraggan embarked on "The Unsinkable Tour". In 2015, Spraggan wrote and sang the "catchy" lyrics for the TV advert for online fashion store Simplybeyou. Later in 2015 Spraggan was signed to CTRL Records. On 3 February 2016 Spraggan announced, via social media, that her new EP would be called Home and due to be released on 9 February. The EP contained 3 new songs called "Home", "Yes, This One's for You" and "Skylights". It also included a new version of "Tea and Toast" which explained the story behind the song. About the album Spraggan said "I wanted to put my own take on events that happen to everyone by telling these stories. I have been writing this album for as long as I can remember and I hope people will be able to relate." [28] The lead single " Lighthouse" was released 14 July. About the single Spraggan explains 'Whenever I'd run out of money or get on the wrong bus, I'd see a lighthouse and things would start to getting better'. [29] Spraggan confirmed the second single lifted from the album would be " Last Night (Beer Fear)" was released on 30 September. [30]

Gage, Simon (13 January 2023). "Lucy Spraggan reveals the mixed emotions when writing her autobiography: 'It's been horrendous but wonderful' ". Metro . Retrieved 19 April 2023. Whilst we have worked hard to try and protect Lucy’s lifetime right to anonymity, we applaud her strength and bravery now that she has chosen to waive that right.” Lucy Honour Ruby Spraggan (born 21 July 1991) is an English singer-songwriter. Spraggan was a contestant on for The X Factor in 2012, and she was the first contestant in the show's history to score a Top 40 single and album before the live shows aired, with her independently released album Top Room at the Zoo. Following the show Spraggan signed a recording contract with Columbia Records, and she has released seven studio albums in total.

Clark was the first person Spraggan told about what had happened, who advocated for her (and they remain friends today). The police were called by the production team and she was taken to a specialist unit. Thanks to the porter's keycard, an arrest was made, but Spraggan says she felt the production team was "unprepared" to deal with the situation. The X Factor UK (23 September 2012). "Lucy Spraggan's Bootcamp performance - Tea And Toast - The X Factor UK 2012". YouTube . Retrieved 3 May 2019. Simon Cowell, the creator of The X Factor, said that what happened to Spraggan was “horrific and heartbreaking” ” and that, “when I was given the opportunity to speak to Lucy, I was able to personally tell her how sorry I was about everything she has been through. Although we met under tragic circumstances, a genuine friendship and a mutual respect has developed between us. Lucy is one of the most authentic, talented and brave people I have ever met. I have always supported her wish to tell her story as well as her efforts to bring about positive change.” Now a decade later, she notes that she hasn't since experienced any other situation wherein "somebody completely takes the reins of my life [...] If I had experienced that again, as a normal human being, I would have said that I would have been in an abusive relationship." She also told her story in an emotional interview with The Guardian, recalling the moment she realised what had happened to her. “I woke up the next day with this sense of sheer dread. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that level of confusion since,” she said. “I knew that I’d been raped, but I could not process that. So I put my clothes on and went into autopilot.”

Process is a book about the vicious impact of trauma across a lifetime; it is about Lucy's successes and mistakes, her journey towards sobriety, calm and something like peace. Most of all, Process is an extraordinary story about a gifted artist and an expose of the toxic underbelly of noughties celebrity culture and reality TV. We continue to evolve our own duty of care processes on programmes we produce to ensure that there are appropriate measures in place to support contributors before, during and after filming.

A memoir of great power and emotional honesty. To read this book is to be in awe of Spraggan's strength in writing it.' Elizabeth Day

She said in the days after the assault, the side-effects of Pep (a drug that prevents HIV) made her too unwell to consider continuing with the competition. The X Factor was produced by Thames and Syco, who were primarily responsible for duty of care towards all of its programme contributors. Although she wanted to make public the reason for her exit from The X Factor, she said various people told her: “You have your whole career ahead of you and you can’t retract this.” In an event of such a distressing nature, welfare and support towards the victim would always be of the utmost priority.” This was narrated by Lucy herself, and she has such a way with words. The ferrero rocher/raffaello analogy of gender was so simple and yet so powerful 👏🏽 It was very eye-opening to hear her talk about how different her life might have been, had she grown up in a time more accepting of non binary/trans. The letters to her younger self were so touching, and I loved the inclusion of her lyrics + learning what point in life she was at when she wrote different songs. The meaning behind them adds a whole new impact to the lyrics and I especially loved the story behind one of my favourites 𝘁𝗲𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁.
