With also a very high likelihood of space dragons, it seems CC is going to beat me to everything I'm currently writing. Wish is a girl from a warrior tribe and Xar is a boy from a wizard tribe, living in a world loosely based on Ancient Britain at the beginning of the Iron Age, but where magic is real. I really appreciate authors who celebrate differences and neurodivergence in their characters, rather than making them out to be something bad.

Hachette Book Group is a leading book publisher based in New York and a division of Hachette Livre, the third-largest publisher in the world. This is done sparingly, and doesn’t intrude on the narrative too much, and it will be interesting to see what bearing will have on other books in the series. At times, it suffers from the chaos of too many characters all acting at the same time and a lack of background, but this may even out as the series continues. But when the twins are whisked off to Jungledrop, a magical Unmapped Kingdom in charge of conjuring our world's weather, things get wildly out of hand. This book is chock full of illustrations that bring the human earflings and their out of this world adventure to life. It is full of brilliant characters, dialogue, and a daring rescue mission with terrible beasts and a robot assassin. Then they have two lesser main characters that are either, organised and protective or a kind and caring young girl.

The book is filled with whimsical settings, from magical forests to bustling cities, each described in such detail that it feels like you are right there alongside the characters. They are fairly ordinary children (although K2 and Izzabird have some odd magical relatives) living normal lives on Earth in the present day.

So when I saw the blog tour I knew that this would be the way I could read it and oh boy I could kick myself for not reading it sooner. As expected from a Cressida Cowell story, this is fun with lots of close escapes, villains who are actually quite good, good characters who end up being bad . The book starts, and the imaginary curtains in my brain are drawn and I sit down and read for as long as I can. One of the most eagerly awaited children's books of the year, this magical adventure is also one of the most spellbinding.
