As someone who has always been interested by mythology, this was right up my street and I loved seeing a different perspective of the Greek Gods. A quirky fantasy adventure in which a human boy and a Greek goddess accidentally release an immortal supervillain who is determined to take over the world - and maybe even the universe.

However I really enjoyed Phoebe's passion for running and I liked the twist that revealed Pheobe's ancestry. Phoebe lacked personality and while it was obvious that Childs tried to give her some personality by giving her running as a hobby this seemed forced, it was like there was a reference to running every two paragraphs and that really annoyed me, I was like; "We get that she's a runner Tera, now get on with the story! The Gods themselves don't really make an appearance, but their mythology and influence are all over this cute tale. Any images belonging to the author should be regarded in the same way as the previously mentioned written content and should not be used without permission.

There was a little side-plot which dealt with somebody trying to find out the secret of The Academy, which I thought could have been built up to a hilarious but action-packed climax but this was resolved very easily. Her mom actually lays this news on Phoebe after she wins a race at the end of a running camp (good timing, no?In one chapter, she remembers when she tried to hug her half-brother Apollo who fist-bumped her instead. Even when she finds out that he was part of the most convoluted and non-sensical bet of all time (if the bet is to see if Griffin can make Phoebe fall in love with him, why encourage her to try and get him to like her? Ali Smith's wonderfully presented adaptation of Sophocles's play opens on a battlefield with a crow contemplating which bit of a fallen soldier she might like to eat first. When you're running against teammates with superpowers, dealing with a stepsister from Hades, and nursing a crush on a boy who is quite literally a god, the drama takes on mythic proportions!

I was also a little put off by the whole writing letters to her mom thing - it felt both like a way to info dump and to recap on things that had already happened in the previous chapters.Nate - A chaos magician who is shown to be more level-headed than many of the other recurring characters.
