As it always goes with Massey plug-ins, the demo version gives you a lot of functionality for free, but there are some key functions I really like in the paid version. All of our products are new unless stated and come with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 3-year warranty as standard. Provides up to +25dB of active ultra-clean gain in two distinct stages and optimal impedance loading for dynamic and ribbon mics to perform their best. Then I recorded a short narration, and fine-tuned the RMS levels of the two tracks to ensure identical levels. This thing makes my RE320 sound like an RE3200 it adds much more needed voltage with +48v phantom power.

First, I imported a MIDI track of kick drums into Pro Tools then ran the MIDI to the Pop/Rock section of EZdrummer. I bough my C-1 to use with my SM7b after reading your review, and that pair has been in my vocal chain for the eight or nine songs I’ve written and recorded over the past 8 or so months. With a Cloudlifter in your rig, you need not hesitate to take full advantage of your favorite ribbon mics and other go-to low-output dynamic mics. Chris uses a Cloudlifter with a Scarlett 2i2 for his recording setup, but it’s not necessary if you can get a loud enough signal without one. I frequently work in Fourth Presbyterian Church which is across the street from the 100 story tall Hancock building. The CL-1 did indeed raise the output of the mic, allowing me to use a lower preamp setting for the recording.

Before that test, I never even considered there might be a delay using EZdrummer, but then four samples isn’t all that much, and it’s not like I’m doing a lot of technopop productions. The Cloud Cloudlifter CL-1 provides up to 25dB of ultra-clean and transparent gain to complement your main mic pre. I use prosumer audio interfaces which can "just" bring the signal in from my dynamic microphones, but even though I use a dbx 286 S microphone processor which can arguably power something like a Shure SM7B, I know that my Cloudlifter can reduce the load on either of my audio interfaces and this eliminates the risk of hiss which comes with maximum gain when using any audio interface. One of the findings from my first review is that the Cloudlifter delivers at least 20dB of gain as clean or cleaner than any of my preamps. And I know it sounds ridiculous to mention it as advantage but really - from privacy and security standpoint microphone that constantly captures all sounds no matter if you actually use it or not is terrible concept. If you’re using a dynamic mic with a 16-bit USB mic pre, and you want to maximize your gain staging before bus-powered A-to-D conversion, you need the Cloudlifter. Back at the mic end of the cable run, I put the Cloudlifter inline on one cable, and wired both through the JS-2 into a low-output dynamic (hello, SM57! Vintage King co-founder Michael Nehra shares some of his love, knowledge, and practical advice for diving into the world of vintage audio gear, and then takes us behind the scenes for a walk through.
