I really liked her character arc, although I thought the ending felt a bit rushed but maybe I'm just mad that it had an ending at all. That's why I have given it four stars, but still one of the most entertaining books I have read for a while. It’s an excellent exploration of putting other people’s lives on a pedestal, she really pins all her hope on what she sees as a couple having made it, one that has everything, being the solution to her problems.

Her books include the novels Insatiable (long listed for the CWIP prize), Careering (as heard on BBC Sounds), Limelight, and Pity Party, coming in July 2024. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. She openly describes herself as a complete mess and there was always an element of rationality to the choices she made, however bad. Our narrator is Violet, a 20-something working a job she doesn’t love and trying to move past a broken engagement and lost friendships. Teetering between a toxic past and enchanting, but potentially catastrophic, future, Violet explores her desires. Funny at times, tragic at times, Buchanan has delivered an intriguing, if slightly excessive, debut.

violet, our narrator, is unfulfilled in sex and work, has recently broken off an engagement and is really just floating through life. Quickly Violet realises she is being invited into much more than a new job when she attends one of their Friday night sex parties and soon she becomes hooked on Lottie, Simon and their friends. Violet is quite naïve and willing to overlook this (or maybe she just doesn’t even notice) initially, but it’s easy for the reader to see the manipulation that Lottie and Simon use Violet for.

library’s review and definitely agree, particularly when it comes down to the more sexual content, as the other themes that they tackle are quite different. A piercing insight into the unreal demands modern women place on themselves and told with real humour and energy, we love this book so much. I hate that at least once a day something will make me forget what happened, and then I have to remember it all over again. Back in Ye Olde Internete Days, this didnt present a problem, because no one in fandom linked their fandom identity to their real-world identity.
